When I was younger, my friends always asked if my step-dad was in the military because we moved so much! He was not in the military; I think he got bored easily. Mom always said, "Rick wears a lot of hats." So, every time he changed his hat - we moved. We lived in New Mexico, Virginia, and Colorado. Three states, big deal, the thing is we moved between those places about every 2 to 4 years! We settled in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in the mid 1980's.
You might say that wandering is in the blood. In chronicling my family history there is a clear pattern of movement on all sides. My father's family homesteaded in Oklahoma having first braved the desert trek from Texas in the mid 1800's. My mother's family made the difficult journey from England and Ireland with nothing but basic necessities. All of these ancestors endured trying and character-building trials to make better lives for themselves and their children.
